Musing from the manse
They can’t see the wood for the trees, or put another way, how come we so often cannot see what is right in front of our eyes? I was intrigued to read of a ruling made by the Department of Transport and Security in the United States of America. Anyone travelling through US airports will know of the frustration of having to queue, sometimes literally for hours to pass through the security procedures, a much needed but still none the less infuriating time spent in endless lines of people waiting to pass through scanners, have shoes and belts removed, and rub down searches.
These obligatory screening and searches have been mandatory for every passenger and crew member flying out of a US airport. Often the lines of individuals have been so long that crew members were delayed, and subsequently flights have been delayed.
An enquiry was set up by the Dept. of Homeland Security to discover how improvements might be made to speed up the process, particularly for aircraft captains, who need to get to the flight deck ahead of other crew members in order to carry out pre-flight checks.
The recommendation after months of consultation was that flight captains need not be subject to scanners and other security checks, on the grounds that if they wanted to bring down an aircraft in mid flight, they would not need a bomb or explosives to bring such carnage – they were the captains and so could just crash the plane.
Here is a question for you to contemplate, what is it that God needs to remind you of, because it is so obvious you have just overlooked what is in front of you? Here’s a starter “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. (Matthew 22; 38, 39)
Our Churches, our communities would be so much the better, if we stopped talking about it, and just did it.
