November
I just love this time of the year, as autumn approaches, the nights begin to draw in, and there become a crisp feel to the mornings.
As I have just drawn up outside the Church, I cannot help but notice the number of leaves that have begun to fall to the ground, and this in another of those joys and wonders to me, the sheer pallet of colours that are now displayed, rich and deep, a variety of shades, that have all come from leaves that until a few days ago were just plain green.
I am of course, reminded that the vibrancy of colour and the spectacular visages that this gives to use as we look across hill and vale are leaves in the process of dying. They have served their purpose, and as they begin to drop from the trees, the colours just herald in death. Nature gives to us a wonderful illustration of life;that there is glory in death. No doubt by the time you read this we will have remembered with solemnity another Armistice Day. It is not this glory to which I refer but to the glory of what’s to come when we stand with Christ. Paul wrote in his letter to the Church in Corinth “We know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they’ll be replaced with resurrection bodies in heaven – God-made, not handmade...We’ve been given a glimpse of our true home, our resurrection bodies! The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less”. Truly the best is yet to be!
The other reason I love the autumn, of course, is that I don’t have to mow the lawn anymore.
