I thought I might like to write about the newly opened high tech crematorium in Suffolk that has a live link facility to the internet that allows anybody, anywhere in the world to watch services live from the Chapel. How things have changed.
Then there was the story of the vase hidden in the attic, which was sold at auction for £43 million. Literally a case of hidden treasure.
But they were all pipped at the post by the announcement this morning that the government is commissioning a new research project to provide an index of happiness. Recognising that „money is not everything‟ there is to be a paper produced to explain what makes people happy. The cynic in me thinks that it a clever ploy to deflect attention from the economic recession that we find ourselves in. Then in my good moments I think that it would be good to spend all that money on what we already know, that happiness is not determined by wealth, but by health and well-being.
Our perspective is somewhat deeper that happiness, we remember that Jesus said „that he is come that we might have life in its fullness‟ – deeper than happiness, and broader than joy, Jesus came into our world, that we might comprehend the meaning of life. Now there is a subject worth researching.
